![]() I can only assume that the people responsible for the impeccable combat mechanics weren't involved in this game. I did NOT expect Santa Monica to fuck this up but they did. I didn't really care about that, I already understood it and I don't have any problem about Kratos being a "douche". That being said, this is not a complaint to me. If you didn't get it before Ascension, you still won't. The game does a very poor job at making us see how he became a tormented murderous bastard. If you think Ascension is going to make you understand why Kratos is acting like a careless psychopath, you'll be VERY disappointed. Story: "Before he was a God, he was a man". I couldn't care less about better textures and such. I'm not a graphic whore so I won't go into details here. Reasons for this can be found in the Gameplay section of this post. Personally, I find God of War 3 more impressive and more breathtaking. Graphics: This is the best looking God of War game. I haven't played the Multiplayer so this is only about the Single Player and on that regard, I can safely say that the latest GoW game is the worst of the series (PSP titles included) And I believe this should be known as a fact but it's clearly not the case with Ascension. What's important to know is that I think the gameplay for every GoW on console is an improvement to the previous ones. ![]() whether you agree or not is irrelevant to what I'm about to say. Santa Monica seemed to do everything right. If I reviewed the previous games when they released, I'd give the console games a perfect score and the PSP games a 9,5. God of War is easily one of my favorite franchises of all time. I'll start with cliffnotes: They fucked it up.įirst, a short introduction. Open the door on the far side of the room for a long cutscene. Here we go. Walk forward and to the right to find the Antikythera Mechanism. Once through the portal, the platform you are on lowers into the ground. Run out through the blue door now, using the Eyes of Truth to clear the way. Pull the lever that you uncover all the way to the right, then use a Kratos clone to hold the dome in place. Walk to the center cage and use the Eyes of Truth to clear out the Fury barrier. Grab the blue and green orb chests, then go over to the big double doors and close them. Now you are at the top of the Lantern again. Again, the ever-useful Cyclone of Fury/Falling Helio combo works great and with a little perseverance you’ll make it through. Simply use the Cyclone of Fury and Falling Helios moves (double-jump and at the top of the arc hold square, then hold triangle to continue the attack lower on the ground). A centaur appears first and is a cinch to kill. Oddly, the third and final wave is the easiet. A proper kill will net you some green orbs. Wave Two has the only health in the whole sequence, so make sure you get the red grapple bar above the Amazons. Repeat this process until you’re able to execute the knight using its own weapon. Again, wait for the flames to die down and jump past both the knight and the firewall at the same time. You will need to dodge past it at some point. When fire blast makes it trickier to move around simply wait for the flames to die down before nipping past.Īn electricity knight will then appear – the best plan is to keep your distance and let Shadow Kratos chip away at its health, attacking occasionally from afar before backing away to avoiding its club. When the Amazons have died turn your focus to the harpies – these guys are pretty easy to kill off, just use the Cyclone of Fury and Falling Helios attacks (double-jump, hold square and then hold triangle). If you have any magic left be sure to use it now. The Amazons present the biggest challenge here – be ready to counter their attacks with a quick QTE button press, and again, use Shadow Kratos to keep the pressure on. If all goes well you should dispense with all of the enemies with around half your health bar still intact and, hopefully, some magic left over. Also use Shadow Kratos as frequently as you can and freeze enemies using the Amulet, before going in for the kill. Keep moving and watch out for both the electricity attacks and the Gorgon’s stare, because if you’re caught in mid-air you’ll turn to stone and shatter when you hit the ground, which is instant game over. You need to deal with these quickly – use magic as much as you can and make sure you hit every enemy with every attack. When you kill one of the gorgons, another appears kill the other and it’s replaced too, along with witches. Use a magic attack if necessary but no more than one – you’ll need them shortly. First up, there are two gorgons to kill – the trick is to knock them both down so the red ‘execute’ bar is above their heads at the same time, rather than killing them off one at a time. This is the hardest of the three waves, with Gorgons and witches making a deadly combination.
